SPARTANBURG, S.C. – College of Charleston junior Mickael Trintignac (Le Cannet, France) has been named Southern Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the period of Apr. 4-10.
Trintignac went 6-0 last week, playing at the No. 2 singles spot and as part of the No. 3 doubles team, alongside sophomore Billy Kenny (Pawley’s Island, S.C.). The Cougars (14-5, 8-1 SoCon) earned a 6-1 win over The Citadel and a pair of home shutouts over UNC Greensboro and Davidson. Their 8-1 conference record puts them in a tie for first place with Elon.
Trintignac, who leads the team with a 16-3 record in singles, is on a five-match win streak as CofC’s second seed. He cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over The Citadel’s Derek Dickey on Apr. 6. Trintignac defeated then SoCon-leading UNC Greensboro’s Timon Meijs 7-6, 6-2 and finished the weekend with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over Chris Mark of Davidson for his third straight-set victory of the week and 11th of the season.
In doubles action, Trintignac teamed up with sophomore Billy Kenny (Pawley’s Island, S.C.) and recorded three wins for a 4-1 record as a pair. After defeating Bulldogs Josh Cook and Jeremiah Dye, 8-4 on Wednesday, the duo clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over UNC Greensboro’s Ahmet Sarioglu and Chanon Varapongsittikul. Davidson’s Connor Evins and Chris Mark proved be the toughest competition of the week for the pair but Trintignac and Kenney eventually walked a way with an 8-6 win to complete the sweep at doubles over the Wildcats.
The weekly award is Trintignac’s first this season and fifth in his career. He and the Cougars will close out the regular season on Thursday with a trip to Georgia Southern for a 2:30 p.m. match.
