STATESBORO, Ga. - The College of Charleston swimming and diving teams both beat Savannah College of Art and Design but the women lost to Georgia Southern at the group meet on Saturday afternoon.
The women's team beat SCAD (153-74) but fell to Georgia Southern (99-128). The men's team swam against just SCAD and won, 116-106.
Women's Highlights
Meredith Smith was the runner up in the 200-yard freestyle (1:56.90). She also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle (54.35).
Gracie Herlong won the 200-yard butterfly with a 2:08.76 mark.
Sarah Boyle claimed second place in the 200-yard backstroke at 2:11.26.
Sara Gardocki took second place in the 50-yard freestyle with a 5:10.83 time.
Haley Fitzpatrick won the 3-meter diving event with a 123.20 mark.
The Cougars won the 400-yard freestyle relay with Boyle, Raquel Rudolph, Courtney Walsh and Smith.
Men's Highlights
The men got started early by placing second in the second event of the day in the 400-yard IM relay event with Jackson Marine, Brantley Reynolds, David Sherrier and Matt Sherrier. They combined for a 3:33.17 mark.
Evan Renn placed second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:19.19).
The Cougars took the top two finishes in the 200-yard freestyle with Matt Sherrier (1:44.63) and Eric Craig (1:46.73).
Greg Karel finished in second place in the 50-yard freestyle (21.84) with Patrick Jones (22.04) finishing just behind him in third place.
David Sherrier won the 100-yard freestyle event (47.36) and Karel followed him in second place (49.03).
Jake Irmiter placed second in the 200-yard backstroke at 1:58.87.
Peter Gibbons bested the 3-meter diving event with a 225.20 mark.
CofC won the 400-yard relay with Craig, Karel, Jones and David Sherrier.

The Cougars return to action next Saturday, October 30 at Davidson.
