Helmig had a huge impact in the backfield in the men's soccer team's 2010 NCAA second-round match against No. 1-ranked and top-seeded Louisville on Nov. 21. Though the stat sheet and final box score doesn't show it, he made a big difference on defense in 75 minutes of play for CofC. Helmig saved a goal early in the match when the Cardinals drew a dangerous free kick from just a yard outside of the 18-yard box. The Cougars' defensive wall was well positioned and Helmig charged forward to block the shot aside. He closed out a stellar senior campaign with three goals and one assist for seven points including a game-winning goal at Winthrop on Oct. 19. CofC ended the season at 11-5-3 overall and made its first NCAA appearance since 2004 under head coach Ralph Lundy.
Boyle was an integral factor in the women's swimming and diving team's first-place finish at the Fall Frenzy Invitational hosted by Wingate on Nov. 20-21 in Charlotte, N.C. She won the 200-yard individual medley event with a time of two minutes, 12.18 seconds. Boyle was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke (59.69) as well as the 200-yard backstroke setting a new CofC school record in the event with a time of 2:07.15. She was also a member of the meet-best 400-yard freestyle relay team comprised of sophomore Raquel Rudolph (Central, S.C.), junior Haley Horkey (Waldorf, Md.) and freshman Meredith Smith (Westfield, N.J.) who turned in a first-place time of 3:38.14 against teams from host Wingate, SCAD, Converse College, Catawba College, Mars Hill, Limestone, Pfeiffer, Queens University and Lenoir Rhyne.
