The men were outscored by N.C. State, 173-100, while the women lost to the Wolfpack, 184-91 and defeated Campbell, 161-116, avenging an early season defeat to the Camels.
On the men's side, freshman Pablo Ortiz took first place in the 200-yard IM (1:58.68), while finishing second in the 200-yard butterfly (1:54.21) and second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.46).
Senior Matt Sherrier finished second in the 1,000-yard freestyle (9:47.32) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (47.16). Sophomore Chris Verbonceour took first place in the 100-yard butterfly (53.14), followed by freshman Mike McCarthy who took second (54.08).
Freshman Zack Lambert placed third in the 100-yard backstroke (53.66) followed by McCarthy who finished fourth (54.26). Senior Brantley Reynolds led the Cougars in the 200-yard breaststroke with a third-place finish (2:15.94) while classmate Dmitriy Gorin came in right behind him at 2:18.04.
In the diving events, junior Peter Gibbons finished third in the one-meter dive event with a score of 256.27.
On the women's side, sophomore Sarah Boyle scored two second-place finishes, in the 100-yard backstroke (59.51) and the 200-yard IM (2:13.27). She also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke (2:11.29). Junior Gracie Herlong placed third in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:17.76.
Freshman Sarah Graif placed second in 100-yard freestyle (53.32) and second in the 50-yard freestyle event (24.46). Classmate Jayme Groth came right behind Graif in the 50-yard free with a time of 24.86. Sophomore Meredith Smith touched the wall second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56.91.
Both the men's and women's squads took home first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relays. The men's A squad consisting of Sherrier, Reynolds, Eric Craig and Greg Karel finished in a time of 1:26.44. The women's A squad of Mary Frances Babrowicz, Smith, Groth and Graif touched the wall in 1:39.08.
The Cougars travel to the Wingate Fall Frenzy next weekend, beginning on Friday, Nov. 18.
