HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. - Senior Leigh Whittaker shot a 3-over 75 to lead the College of Charleston women's golf team in the first round of the Southern Conference Championship Sunday at the Moss Creek Golf Club.

The Cougars shot a team score of 26-over 314 and are eight shots back of team leader UNCG.

Whittaker was consistent throughout the round with 13 pars and three bogeys and is tied for fourth-place on the individual leaderboard as not a single individual shot even par or better. The first round leader is Martyna Mierzwa of Elon with a 74.

The Cougars next three golfers all finished the first round in the top 25 with juniors Vanessa Koechli (79, 16th), Katharina Boehm (80, 23rd) and Anna Martin (80, 23rd).

Junior Ainhoa Nogales rounded out the lineup with an 83 and is tied for 34th.
