ELGIN, S.C. - College of Charleston rising senior Vanessa Koechli defeated the University of Florida's Mia Piccio 5 and 4 to advance to the quarterfinals of the Women's Trans National Amateur Championship. Koechli qualified in 11th out of 94 participants after shooting 75-74 in qualifying. She then won matches against Maria Maymon 5 and 4 and against Taylor Camane 1 up to get to her match against Piccio.
Koechli will take on Hanule Sky Seo of Penn State in the quarterfinals of the tournament.
"Vanessa has been playing well all summer," CofC head coach Jamie Futrell said. "This is a huge accomplishment for her. I hope she can continue the run today."
