CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams will return to Boone, N.C. for the second time in as many weeks, this time with more on the line as they compete in the Southern Conference Championships.
The competition, hosted by Appalachian State at the State Farm Fields features a women's 5k race set to start at 10:00a.m., followed by the men's 8k race at 10:45a.m.
Although the Cougars men's and women's teams were ranked eighth and ninth respectively in the preseason conference poll, CofC coach Amy Seago said she thinks her team can do much better.
Both the men and women's teams come into competition having placed in the top-10 in four of their five meets so far this season.
Earlier in the year junior Christian Bailey set a new Cougar school record at the Charlotte Invitational. On the women's side freshman Dena O'Brien has placed in the top-15 five times, including three top-five finishes. O'Brien took the individual victory at the Citadel Invitational, helping her team to a second-place finish.
Last year the Appalachian State men took the team title in the meet, while on the women's side it was Samford winning the championship. On the men's side six of the top 10 finishers from 2009 return, while eight of the top 10 women are back.
