SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Despite a little stormy weather the College of Charleston men's and women's cross country teams battled it out in the Eye Opener hosted by USC Upstate.
Lightening delays forced both the men's and women's races to be run together as freshman Hayley McMahon led the women's team to a sixth place finish as she crossed the line in 21st place with a time of 19:28 for the 5K race. Sophomore Elle Brewer bested her career best by 20 seconds en route to a new personal record of 20:10.
The men's team finished ninth at the meet, led by freshman Adam Seften, who finished 25th in 27:06 for the 8K race. Fellow newcomer Mackenzie Johnston was not far behind in 27:37.
With many of the upperclassmen not racing for the team it was a good chance to get experience for the newcomers as many competed in their first collegiate race.
