KERRVILLE, TEXAS - College of Charleston junior men's golfer Alex Ellis punched his ticket to the 2012 U.S. Amateur Championship August 13-19 at Cherry Hills Country Club in Denver, Colo.

Ellis, who shot rounds of 70-68 for a 6-under 138 at the Riverhill Country Club, will join fellow CofC golfer Zach Munroe in the prestigious event.

"This is a great accomplishment for Alex and to have multiple CofC golfers in the U.S. Amateur Championship speaks to the level of our program," CofC coach Mark McEntire said. "I'm looking forward to traveling out west and seeing what these guys can do."

The College of Charleston men's golf team begins its 2012-13 season by hosting The Invitational at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island Sept. 9-11.
