SAN ANTONIO, Texas - College of Charleston senior Coy Breen advanced from his local qualifier to the sectional qualifier for the 2011 US Open at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in Texas.

Breen, who shot 70 to advance, will compete in a sectional qualifier in Dallas, in the next couple weeks, where he will play 36 holes and have an opportunity to qualify for the US Open, which will be contested June 13-19 at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md.

Breen, a native of San Antonio, finished his collegiate career strong as he placed sixth at the 2011 Southern Conference Championship.

Breen shot the fourth best round, with the top five advancing to the sectional qualifying stage.

CofC Head Coach Mark McEntire said this shows how far Breen has come.

"Coy has improved each year he has been at the College of Charleston," he said. "He is now at a point where he has a chance to chase a dream of his and qualify for one of the four major tournaments in golf."
