CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston Head Coach Mark McEntire has announced the addition of transfer senior Henry Smart from the University of Virginia.
Smart, a native of Epsom Surrey, England brings a wealth of championship experience to the Cougars roster. This past season Smart placed 16th at the ACC Championship with scores of 70-73-73 and was UVa's second highest finisher. Smart was also the team's number two finisher at the NCAA East Regional.
In his sophomore season Smart tied a competitive round course record at The Honors Course with a 6-under 66 during the second round of the NCAA Championship. He also shot back-to-back rounds of 68 at the NCAA Regional which led UVa with a 16th place finish. That season he was ranked 20th in the ACC in stroke average at 73.07.
In addition to his collegiate golf schedule Smart also qualified for the 2010 U.S. Amateur Championship.
Smart was a member of the English Elite Squad, which features the top 12 under-18 junior in England. In 2010 Smart shot the low score at the English Amateur Championship with a 65. He was fourth at the 2010 South of England Amateur Championship, the fourth largest stoke play event in Europe, shooting scores of 68-72-68-74.
College of Charleston Head Coach Mark McEntire said he is thrilled to bring in someone with the experience level of Smart.
"I am very excited to have Henry on our team," McEntire said. "He is going to have an immediate impact. He brings championship-level experience that is going to really help everyone and make our team a lot better."
