AWENDAW, S.C. - Freshman Shane Rogan led the College of Charleston men's golf team with an even-par 72 as the Cougars opened play in the Hootie at Bulls Bay Intercollegiate Sunday.
The Cougars shot 7-over as a team and are six shots back as fifth-place. Kentucky and Auburn are tied for the team lead at 3-under.
Rogan birdied four holes on the day and was one of 24 golfers out of 75 to finish the first round at even-par or better. The tournament leader is Ji Soo Park from Virginia at 3-under.
Senior Seth Stuart shot a first round 73 and is tied for 25th place individually in the tournament.
Junior Neil Gowan provided one of the highlights of the day as his approach shot on the 18th hole from 232 yards out into the wind with a 3-wood landed a foot from the hole. He tapped in for birdie to finish his round at 3-over.
The Cougars will continue play tomorrow at 9:50 a.m. off of hole 10. Live scoring for the tournament will continue to be available via golfstat.com
