TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - College of Charleston goalkeeper Kees Heemskerk was recently named to the national All-Freshman squad by one of the nation's leading publishers of college soccer, CollegeSoccerNews.com.
Heemskerk, a native of Zaandam, Holland, was an integral part of the success the men's soccer team saw this past season and his efforts earned him Second Team All-Freshman honors.
"This accolade for Kees [Heemskerk] is well deserved," said CofC head coach Ralph Lundy. "He stepped in and played a major role in helping our team make the NCAA Tournament. As a keeper it is never easy to step in as a freshman and play straight away, but Kees did it with the highest quality and has been honored for it."
Heemskerk spent most of the season ranked in the top-10 nationally in several goalkeeping statistical categories. He played every minute in net for the Cougars and allowed 20 goals on 82 saves for a .804 save percentage. Heemskerk registered six shutouts and a 1.017 goals against average as well.
CollegeSoccerNews.com selected a first, second, and third team. CSN has issued All-Freshman Team selections annually since the 2000 season. A total of nineteen conferences were represented on the three teams selected.
