College of Charleston increased the number of student-athletes on the Honor Roll yet again this year, joining five other member institutions that also raised the number of honorees for this academic year. Overall, College of Charleston ranked fourth in the Southern Conference for the most honorees, trailing only Davidson (270), Wofford (204) and Appalachian State (193).
74 of the school's 188 Honor Roll winners were further recognized for the Commissioner's Medal which honors those who attained a 3.5 GPA or higher for this year under the guidance and support of the CofC academic services department led by director Keith Merritt II and assistant advisors Kate Tiller and Melinda Reger.
All student-athletes from the league's member institutions are included on the list, which includes all 19 SoCon sponsored sports as well as non-sponsored sports in field hockey, lacrosse, swimming, equestrian, rifle and sailing. The College of Charleston is a member of the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association.
Southern Conference athletic directors established the honor roll prior to the 1988-89 athletic season as a way to recognize the league's outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in varsity sports at member institutions and posted a 3.0 grade point average or higher while passing at least 24 hours in two semesters of classes or its equivalent for other academic calendars.
