CHARLESTON, S.C. - Senior right-hander Mickael Boyer (Meudon, France) and senior right-hander Kinsey Casey (Alpharetta, Ga.) were named College of Charleston Student-Athletes of the Week sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of April 25.
Boyer, a co-captain on the Southern Conference regular-season champion CofC men's tennis team, led the Cougars to their first appearance in the finals of the SoCon Tournament in eight years with a 6-4, 6-4 straight-set victory over Furman's Tyler Droll in the semifinals on April 22 in Chattanooga, Tenn. He also clinched the team's dual match versus Davidson defeating Calum Gee in a second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (1), at No. 4 singles in the quarterfinals on April 21.
Casey, a 2011 All-SoCon Second Team selection in doubles, led the CofC women's tennis team to its third consecutive SoCon Tournament title and NCAA Tournament appearance. She clinched both match victories in a 4-0 rout of Appalachian State in the quarterfinals on April 21 and a narrow 4-3 victory over Furman in the championship match on April 23 in Chattanooga, Tenn. Casey pulled off a gutty performance to lead the Cougars to victory over the Paladins. Battling a full-body cramp in a tightly-contested second-set tiebreaker, she fell to her knees after winning the deciding match point on a high-swinging volley over Furman's Margaret Boyette, 6-3, 7-6 (5), at No. 4 singles.
