CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston women's tennis team moved up to No. 60 nationally in the latest Campbell/ITA Tennis Team Rankings released on March 27.
The Cougars (16-4, 5-0 SoCon), who were previously ranked No. 74 on March 13, will look to keep their 12-match win streak alive as well as their perfect 12-0 home-court record intact as they play host to Davidson on Sunday, April 1 at 11 a.m. (ET).
CofC, the three-time defending Southern Conference champions, has been playing its best tennis of the season with non-conference wins over No. 44-ranked Oklahoma, UMass, Cornell, Rutgers, Boston University and No. 6-ranked NCAA Division II power Chicago in the mix of its league dominance.
Five players have already turned in 10-win seasons in singles with freshman Jenny Falcone (Davidson, N.C.) owning a team-best 13-3 record followed by freshman Samantha Maddox (Lexington, Ky.) at 12-5, junior No. 1 player Christin Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) at 11-5, senior Caroline Newman (Greensboro, N.C.) at 11-7 and senior Katie Lee (Brisbane, Australia) at 11-1.
"We are anxious to see our response after having a few days off from playing 10 matches in 12 days," CofC Director of Tennis Angelo Anastopoulo said. "The team has been working hard knowing that they will have to be ready for a good Davidson squad on Sunday."
