Kepner Adds Three for 2011-2012 Season
CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston Volleyball Head Coach Jason Kepner has announced the addition of three athletes for the 2011 season. Catey Warren (Charleston, S.C.; Ashley Hall H.S.), Andi Zbojniewicz (Manhattan Beach, Calif.; Mira Costa H.S.) and Taeler Davis (Phelan, Calif; Serrano H.S.) have all committed to play for the Cougars beginning in the 2011 season. They will join outside hitter Lizzy Theesfeld, who signed in the fall.
Davis, a setter, played her freshman season at University of the Pacific before transferring to the College of Charleston to continue her volleyball career. Last season Davis played in 12 matches and made one start, totaling 65 assists and 10 service aces.
As a senior in high school, Davis earned her second straight all-region first team award as well as earning all-league first team honors after leading the Diamondbacks to their third straight Mojave River League title after posting a perfect 12-0 league record while finishing the year a perfect 16-0 overall.
Kepner said he thinks the collegiate experience Davis already has will help the team next year.
"Taeler comes to us from one of the top conferences in the country," he said. "She has a year of experience in college and I feel that will serve her well when she arrives in Charleston. I recruited Taeler when she was in high school and I am fortunate that we have gotten a second chance. Her all around skills are very high and I think she will adapt to our offense very quickly. I look forward to getting her on campus and into a cougar uniform."
Andi Zbojniewicz is a very accomplished libero having started for her varsity team for three years in high school.
This past season Zbojniewicz was recognized as an AVCA Under Armour High School All-American-Honorable Mention. In the 2010 Durango Fall Classic she was named to the All-Tournament Team after a fourth-place finish. Zbojniewicz has been named to her All-League Team in 2008, 2009 and 2010. In 2008 she earned the CIF Silver Medal and established a 12th place national ranking.
Zbojniewicz has also been successful in club volleyball and on the beach. She has been the starting libero for 16's, 17's and 18's for Sunshine Volleyball Club and in 2010 won the Gold Medal in 17 Open Division SoCal Qualifier. In beach action she has earned two Gold Medals at the 2009 SCVA Beach Tournament and 2008 AAU Palisades Open.
"Andi is one of the top liberos in the country and we are very fortunate to add her to our 2011 class," Kepner said. "She plays at such a high level, has a great touch, and keeps her team in so many rallies with her defense. I feel she is going to have an immediate impact on our program."
The Cougars are also excited to add a local athlete in Charleston native Catey Warren.
Warren, a graduate of Ashley Hall High School, was named the 2010 Post & Courier All Lowcountry Player of the Year. Warren is a two-time MVP on the volleyball team and is a three-time SCISA All-State Champion. Earlier this year Warren was also named The High School Sports Report 2010 Miss Volleyball.
Warren has also excelled on the basketball court, where she is a two-time MVP of her team and Ashley Hall Wendy's Heisman Winner. As an accomplished athlete, Warren has also completed a triathlon at Parris Island in March and came in third for women 15-19.
Warren will join senior to be Hayley Harrell as athletes that competed for Ashley Hall.
"I am very excited to have another player from Ashley Hall join our team," Kepner said. "Catey has had an extremely successful high school career and has the ability to play a variety of positions. She is going to give us some depth at a few positions and I feel that she definitely has the potential to see the court her freshman year."
