After missing her sophomore season at Penn State in 2010 due to injury and playing in just 22 total sets in 2011, Dorton transfers to the College of Charleston as one of the most decorated signees in the tenure of head coach Jason Kepner.
A native of Muncie, Ind., Dorton was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year in 2009 as she helped lead the Nittany Lions to a National Championship. That season, she was an AVCA Honorable Mention All-America and AVCA Mideast Region Freshman of the Year honoree. She ranked fourth on the team in kills with 276 and registered double digits in eight matches, including 13 kills in the National Championship match against Texas. She also finished her freshman campaign with 66 blocks.
"It is hard to explain how excited I am to add Darcy to our roster next season," Kepner said. "She has played at the highest level possible in club at Munciana and at Penn State for the last three years. She brings National Championship experience and a winning attitude from one of the best volleyball programs in the country. Darcy will have an immediate impact on our outside hitter position and for the next two years. I look forward to bringing her to Charleston and getting her in the gym next fall."
Before Penn State at Delta High School, Dorton was a three-time AAU 18 Open All-American and a JVDA 18 Open All-American. She captained the Junior National Team that won the 2008 NORCECA Championship and was named the 2008 PrepVolleyball.com National Player of the Year. She was also the 2008 Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year.
Dorton joins Grace Rebarchak (Mobile, Ala.), Kari Fidelholtz (Bloomfield Hills, Mich.) and Melissa Morello (Fox Point, Wis.) in the 2012 College of Charleston volleyball signing class.
