In the morning pool play period, the Cougars knocked off CSU, 26-24 and 27-25, while splitting sets with S.C. State (22-25, 25-17) and UNC Wilmington (22-25, 25-20).
Darcy Dorton led the Cougars with 22 kills in the pool play period, hitting .210. Sloane White tallied 15 kills for a hitting mark of .467. Emily Neideffer tallied 14 kills and Melissa Morello made 12 kills and 21 digs in the six sets of play.
In the afternoon tournament play, the Cougars defeated the Bulldogs in the first round (25-13, 25-15). Morello led the offense with 11 kills, while White had 12 digs. Andi Zbojniewicz chipped in with nine digs. Kallie McKown was the primary setter and registered 25 assists.
In the tournament title match, the Cougars outlasted future CAA opponent UNC Wilmington in two sets, 25-20 and 25-23.
Dorton made 11 kills in the finals with just three errors. Kerstin Koehler notched four total blocks, and Taeler Davis took over the setting duties, making 22 assists and four digs. Morello also had nine kills and eight digs in the finals.
With the tournament marking the end of the spring indoor practice season, the Cougars will now take to the outdoor sand courts to prepare for the 2013 sand volleyball season. CofC opens the season at home on March 22.
