CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston women's basketball head coach Natasha Adair has announced the addition of Melba Chambers as her assistant coach.

Chambers, who brings over 10 years of coaching and playing experience to the Cougars staff, played for Adair and associate head coach Bob Clark at Georgetown in the 1998-99 season.

"Melba Chambers has matured from an All-Big East standout player to an energetic and passionate division I coach," Adair said. "Melba will bring her competitive spirit and her will to win as she teaches and mentors our players."

Most recently Chambers served as assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for the Bowie State Bulldogs in Bowie, Md. In that role she was also responsible for the development of the guards.

"Having the opportunity to work for a person that you admire and respect is a great feeling," Chambers said. "Coach Adair is a great coach and an ever better person. I am honored to be a part of her staff and look forward to helping her build something special here in Charleston."

Chambers has served five seasons as Head Junior Varsity Coach and Varsity Assistant Coach at her Alma Mater, St. Frances Academy in Baltimore, Md.  She helped take the Lady Panthers to the IAAM Championship that they won four out of her five seasons.  Those winning teams produced two Players of the year, over 10 Division I, and countless other college student-athletes.

Chambers received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Georgetown University, where she had an outstanding career for the Hoyas from 1995-1999.  Chambers was a two-time Big East Player of the Week honoree, and she earned MVP for the 1998-1999 season.

After graduating from Georgetown, Chambers continued her playing career as a professional in Germany, for one year.

"Melba will be a true asset to the Cougar program and the community," Adair said. "She is a role model for our young athletes as she proves as the example that working hard and following your dreams will transform into success. I am honored to have Melba with me again."
