CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston women's basketball head coach Natasha Adair participated in the second Slim Down the South Celebrity Softball Challenge on Saturday at Joe Riley Park.
The event was organized by the local nonprofit group Louie's Kids, a group that raises funds to help treat childhood obesity, which afflicts 25 million American children today.
Celebrities included sports stars such as NFL Super Bowl Champion Jim Stuckey and former NBA player Xavier McDaniel. South Carolina native and country music singer Julie Roberts played and sang the national anthem. Actors from Army Wives, and participants in Survivor and the Bachelor and Bachelorette also participated.
Adair, who has two children of her own, said she thinks exercise is very important and that childhood obesity is a problem that needs attention.
"We really promote a healthy way of life in our home," she said. "Childhood obesity at the level it is right now is unacceptable. Being a part of this organization to come out and support and be a little bit of hope is something that I'm excited to be a part of."
In the end Adair's team won the game 5-3, but the biggest success was the money raised to help fight childhood obesity.
