CHARLESTON, S.C. – Having wrapped up their home schedule at the Carolina First Arena on Saturday, February 13, the College of Charleston women’s basketball team (18-8, 12-5) begins a three-game, regular season-ending road trip at Wofford (6-17, 4-11) on Monday, February 15. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at the Terriers Benjamin Johnson Arena in Spartanburg, S.C.

Team Capsules
College of Charleston Cougars (18-8, 12-5)

The Cougars are coming off of a disappointing 52-41 loss to Georgia Southern on Senior Day as they prepare to travel to Wofford.

After a tumultuous first half in which the lead changed hands four times, the score was tied six times and the two teams were separated by only two points at the half, things changed dramatically over the final 20 minutes. Trailing 25-23 at the break, CofC came out with a pair of quick baskets to retake the lead at 27-25 but would then suffer a drought of nearly eight minutes as the Eagles used a 9-0 run to build a 34-27 advantage.

A brief rally narrowed the gap to 37-32 and the Cougars would close to within six points twice before GSU put together a 9-2 run to help lock up the eleven point victory, 52-41.

Senior center Deidra Jones (Irmo, S.C.) was a factor in the paint as she notched a double-double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, both game-highs, and shot 6-of-9 from the field. She added a perfect 5-of-5 outing from the foul line while junior guard Tonia Gerty (Port Orange, Fla.) finished with six points, three assists and a pair of steals. Senior forward Brooke Kotcella (Anderson, S.C.) and senior guard Ericka Williams (Blackville, S.C.) each added six points apiece.

Statistically, the Cougars continue to have tremendous balance in their scoring as Gerty leads four players in double-digits with 10.7 points. She is followed by Williams and senior guard Jade Hughes (Spartanburg, S.C.) at 10.3 points each while Kotcella’s 10.2 average rounds out the double-figure scorers.

Jones leads the team in rebounding with a 7.1 average and is fifth in scoring at 9.4 points per game while Williams and Kotcella are also contributing on the glass as they are averaging 5.6 and 5.2 boards a game, respectively.

Nationally, Gerty entered the week ranked in the Top-100 in a pair of statistical categories according to the NCAA. As of February 7, the 5-3 point guard was 30th with an average of 5.3 assists and 61st in assist-to-turnover ratio with a mark of 1.62. As a team, the College of Charleston ranked in the Top-100 in six categories, including 56th in won-loss percentage (.708). They also came in at 64th in three-point field goals per game (6.3), 83rd in field-goal percentage defense (.375), 87th in three-point field goal percentage (.338), 94th in the field goal percentage (.415) and 96th in assist-to-turnover ratio (.80).

Record Watch

Jade Hughes enters Monday’s contest needing only two three-pointers and four assists to become the College of Charleston’s all-time leader at the Division I level. She currently has 190 threes and 394 assists.

Wofford Terriers (6-17, 4-11)

The Terriers enter Monday’s game riding a two-game win streak with victories over Furman (53-47) and UNC Greensboro (57-55) following losses in six of their previous eight games. In their non-conference schedule, Wofford faced a challenging list of opponents as they faced Georgetown, Wake Forest and Clemson. In the league, they have defeated UNC Greensboro, twice, Elon and Furman.

Mahagony Williams leads the Terriers in scoring with an average of 10.7 points as well as defensively with 1.7 blocks. Natalie Gramblin is second in scoring at 7.9 while Kelly Dwyer is third at 7.3, second in rebounding with a mark of 4.6 and leads the team in steals at 2.78.
