Two words every college kid loves: summer break.  Two words every college kid despises: summer school.  I know for most the thought of continuing on with class after a long year of studies sounds like the worst idea known to man.  However, if you are lucky enough to live in Charleston, summer school actually isn't all that bad!  Here at CofC we are lucky enough to have to option to take summer classes.  Summer classes help us girls get ahead to lighten the load during the school year, and usually -fingers crossed-our GPA's also go up thanks to them!

This May a couple of my teammates and I are taking a Maymester class.  Maymester consists of one semester crammed into about two weeks.  I know what you're thinking, that sounds impossible, but with class everyday from 8:30-12, the information has nowhere to go except straight to our brains.  Last May I took a Spanish Maymester and taking that class helped fulfill my language requirements.  Getting a class like that out of the way was very helpful when I made my schedule for this past school year.  This May I decided to take a math course.  I have a tough time with math, so having the class every day helps me keep it fresh in my mind.

An average day for the girls and me is busy for about six hours and then we have the rest of the afternoon to hang out.  Class is everyday from 8:30-12:00 and right from class we go to work out with our best bud/strength and conditioning coach, Steve.  The workouts are Monday thru Friday and Saturday we have a 20-minute jog downtown.  The workouts are tough and are getting harder as the weeks pass.  All of the girls are working really hard. Steve is impressed with the improvement we are showing.  Along with workouts with Steve, we each have workouts that our position coach created for us.  Those workouts are more focused on basketball skills such as ball handling and shooting.

When all the work is done we gather together in room 102 where the fun begins!  Lately we've been having dance marathons and fashion shows.  (I have it all caught on flip camera if anyone is interested in viewing the footage!)  This month together has been hard work but has also been a good experience for us. I can tell we're all becoming closer than ever.  For the future cougars reading this, I strongly encourage taking a Maymester and if possible stay here all summer because Charleston summers are the best!
