CHARLESTON, S.C. - Freshman sailor Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.) and junior women's basketball player Jillian Brown (Midlothian, Va.) earned College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week honors sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of Jan. 7.
Reynolds led the No. 3-ranked College of Charleston coed sailing team to a tie for its high-finish in the last five years at the Rose Bowl Regatta, held over the weekend at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club near Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier in the Long Beach outer harbor. Reynolds skippered the Cougars to a second-place finish in the A-Division with freshman crew Katie Dowling with 45 points as the Cougars competed with the best teams in the country.
Brown tallied a career-high 11 assists in leading the Cougars to a 58-56 victory vs. Georgia Southern on Saturday as they matched their win total from all of last season. Brown has the most double-digit assists games (5) among all NCAA DI women's basketball student-athletes. On Monday against Davidson, Brown became the seventh CofC women's basketball player to reach 300 career assists and currently is tied for fifth all-time with 303 career assists. Brown matched her career-high with a team-leading 16 points vs. Davidson.
