CHARLESTON, S.C. - Nine different players scored for the College of Charleston women's basketball team, including three in double-figures as they ran past Western Carolina 70-47 Saturday at TD Arena.

Junior Alyssa Frye led the way with 19 points and sophomore Jazz Green put in a career-high 14 points. Junior point guard Jillian Brown added 10 points, six assists, four rebounds and four steals.

The Cougars (8-11, 4-6) led from the opening tip and never looked back as senior Latisha Harris scored on back-to-back layups to put CofC up 4-0.

The Cougars held Western Carolina (5-13, 3-6) at two points until the 13:45 mark of the opening period and built a 12-2 lead.

Western Carolina would narrow the gap to six at 18-12, but the Cougars countered with an 11-0 run on a Courtney McKenzie layup, Green basket and foul and back-to-back three-pointers from Brown and Frye. The Cougars used that momentum to go into the half up 35-18.

The Cougars, who pushed the ball all day with 15 fast break points, came out strong in the second half as they scored 11 of the first 15 points of the second period.

Frye scored 13 of her 19 in the second half as she moved into fifth-place on the Division I school record list for three-pointers in a single season. She is five away from tying that record, set during the 1993-94 season by Natalie Seel, a member of the 2012 College of Charleston Athletics Hall of Fame class.

The Cougars got a career-high eight points from McKenzie as they pulled away in the second half, leading by as much as 28 with 7:16 to go in the game.

Senior Cathryn Hard set a career-high with 14 rebounds, including eight offensive rebounds. Hardy moved into fifth-place on the Division I school record list for offensive rebounds in a single season and now has 232.

Up next the Cougars welcome Furman to TD Arena with a matchup against the Paladins on Monday Jan. 28 at 7:00 p.m.

POST GAME QUOTES

COFC HEAD COACH NATASHA ADAIR

On the win and team effort in the game

"They came out with this fire and determination. We played 40 full minutes tonight. Our team has always competed even if we didn't win. The big word was finishing. We finished plays and down the stretch kept up the energy and played well from start to finish."

On the play of sophomore Jazz Green

"I'm really excited for her and I told her how proud of her I was. Before the game we talked about what she needed to do. It was rebound, defend, score in transition and let everything else come to her. She did that tonight. She made a lot of hustle plays for us and shared energy with the rest of our team."

SOPHOMORE GUARD JAZZ GREEN

On her play tonight

"Before the game I talked to Coach Adair and she told me to hustle, rebound and finish, so that is what I kept in mind the whole game. I tried to come in and play with a lot of energy tonight."

On team effort

"We played a very unselfish game tonight and shared the ball really well. We see now what we can accomplish when we play as a team."
