CHARLESTON, S.C. – Following the College of Charleston women’s basketball record setting year junior Jillian Brown was honored by being named the Cistern Yard News Female Athlete of the Year.

Brown helped the Cougars more than double their win total from seven wins last year to 16 wins this year and set the program record for assists in a season with 206. Brown finished the season ranked 13th in the NCAA in assists per game with 6.4 and was the first Southern Conference student-athlete since the 1997-98 season to average over six assists per game.

“She’s the coach on the floor,” CofC head coach Natasha Adair said. “We don’t have the success we had this year without her being a leader and floor general. I’m so proud of Jill for this tremendous honor.”

Brown, who led the SoCon in assists per game this season also finished fourth on the SoCon record list for assists in a season with her 206. Brown led the conference in minutes played per game and was third in steals with 71. Her 71 steals are fourth on the CofC DI record list for steals in a season.

Brown helped the Cougars make post-season play for the first time since the 2009-10 season, as the team advanced to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Basketball Invitational.
