Atkinson was essential to CofC's 3-0 win over Elon in the opening round of the Southern Conference Championships on Sunday at home. Atkinson netted two goals in the match including the eventual game winner to lift the Cougars to the second round in Greensboro, N.C.
The pair of goals lifted Atkinson's season total to a team-high eight, six of which came in the month of October. Her late-season performance was good enough to notch her name on the All-Southern Conference Second Team.
Ortiz, a freshman from Mauldin, S.C., continued his strong month by winning two races and coming in second place in a third in College of Charleston's first home swim meet of the season. Ortiz won the 200-meter butterfly in an extremely close finish with a time of 1:55.70 (converted), and also won the 200-meter backstroke with a time of 1:57.30. Ortiz took second place in the 200-meter IM, finishing in 1:57.95.
