2010-2011: Indoor: Set three College of Charleston school records, including winning the 5,000-meter title at the Southern Conference Championships in 16:46...Her 5k also broke a 22-year-old SoCon record...Schools record in the mile (4:59.28) and 3,000-meter run (9:46.83). Outdoor: Set four College of Charleston school records and won another 5,000-meter SoCon Championship...Set a personal best time in the 5k at the Raleigh Relays in a time of 16:21...School records in 3k (9:28.25) and 1500 (4:27.60)...Became just the third CofC athlete to compete in NCAA Track & Field Regional.
2010: Cross Country- Won Citadel Invitational (9/25) with a time of 18:19.77...12th place finish at the Charlotte Invitational (10/1) with a time of 17:53.1 which is the fourth fastest in school history for 5k...Set school record for 6k at NCAA Southeast Regional in 21:46.3 for 6k...Named Southern Conference Freshman of the Year and earned spots on First Team All-Conference and All-Freshman Teams...Finished 5th at the SoCon Championships meet in Boone, NC...Bettered her high school 5k mark by over a minute in her first collegiate race.
Pelham: Received all-state status for the past two seasons...Attended the Florida State Winter Distance Project in 2009...Had the opportunity to work with Trent Sanderson of Team Prep USA.
Personal: Dena is the daughter of Tim and Julie O'Brien. She has commited time to working for the Ronald McDonald House and the Safe House. In addition to running she enjoys biking and swimming.
