CHARLESTON, S.C. - Redshirt junior third baseman Matt Leeds (Boca Raton, Fla.) and senior pitcher Alexa Datko (San Diego, Calif.) earned nods as College of Charleston Student-Athlete of the Week sponsored by Piggly Wiggly for the week of April 18.
Leeds batted .588 (10-for-17) and slugged a remarkable 1.235 in five games for the CofC baseball team. He kicked off the week with a career-high three home-run performance in the Cougars' 10-9 win over Charleston Southern on April 13. Leeds added multi-hit efforts in a three-game road series at Elon going 7-for-10 (.700) against the Phoenix with a pair of doubles on April 15-17. He collected seven RBI on the week and added six walks to record a .696 on-base percentage.
Datko went 2-0 in the circle and threw two complete-game shutouts in the CofC softball team's series sweep over Southern Conference leader Chattanooga on April 16 and 17 at Patriots Point. She pitched 14 innings with nine hits, nine strikeouts, three walks and zero runs allowed against a UTC offense that averaged 6.6 runs per game. Datko has totaled seven complete-game shutouts this season.
