Softball Set For Senior Day

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston softball team will honor its seniors as they play host to a series with SoCon foe Western Carolina this weekend.

The Cougars will play a double-header on Saturday with games at 2p.m. and 4p.m. with the series finale on Sunday at 1p.m. The team will honor its seniors prior to the 2p.m. contest on Saturday.

College of Charleston Head Coach Shelly Hoerner said she is very proud of her seniors.

"These seniors have grown tremendously and are truly an amazing group of young ladies," she said. "They have given so much to this program and I wish them the best in their future endeavors."

The seniors being recognized are: Kristi Woodall, Alexa Datko, Katie Nutaitis, Katie Pesature and Hillary Stringer.

The Cougars are 29-17 this season and boast a 17-9 mark at their home stadium at Patriots Point. Conversely, Western Carolina comes in with an 18-28 overall record. CofC is currently fourth in the Southern Conference standings and have won five of its last six games.

Senior Alexa Datko leads the conference with 15 wins and is fourth in strikeouts with 112. Datko comes in third in the SoCon in earned run average at 1.96, helping the Cougars achieve the best team ERA in the conference at 2.01. CofC also ranks first as a team in opposing batting average with opponents batting just .227.

On the offensive side Carly Corthell leads the Cougars in batting average at .355, with Katie Forbes not far behind at .347. The duo is ninth and 10th respectively in the conference in that category.

The Cougars close out the regular season with a road trip to Samford next weekend and will travel to Statesboro, Ga., May 11-14 for the SoCon Championships.
