SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The College of Charleston softball team has been picked to finish third in the Southern Conference this season by a poll conducted of the league’s coaches. The coaches also picked two preseason all-conference teams and CofC earned five selections.
The Cougars, back-to-back SoCon Tournament runner-ups, registered 50 points in the poll, trailing second-place Chattanooga (58) and first-place Georgia Southern (63).
Senior pitcher Stephanie Saylors (Easley, S.C.), junior shortstop Lizzy Vaughn (Placerville, Calif.) and junior third baseman Kelsey Hodgson (Woodstock, Ga.) were all named preseason first-team selections.
Sophomore Hope Klicker (Walla Walla, Wash.) was twice named to the second team, both as a pitcher and utility player.
The season gets underway on Wednesday, Feb. 13 when the Cougars open with crosstown rival Charleston Southern in a doubleheader at Patriots Point. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
The 2013 Southern Conference Softball Championship is scheduled for May 8-11 in Greensboro, N.C.
