April Varnum is entering her first year as a Graduate Assistant at the College of Charleston. Varnum will serve as the primary athletic trainer for the women's basketball team as well as the cheer and dance programs.
Varnum comes to the College of Charleston from Erksine where she received her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training in May of 2010. While completing her undergraduate work, Varnum served as an Athletic Training Student for three years. In that capacity, she provided training services for men's and women's soccer, softball, baseball, the Dixie High School varsity football team as well as the Emerald High School junior varsity and varsity football teams.
In her junior and senior years at Erskine, Varnum served as a Mid Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association Student Senator for South Carolina. Varnum served as the Secretary and Senate Chair of the Student Senate and acted as the primary contact between the Student Senate and South Carolina Athletic Training Association.
Beginning in January of 2010, Varnum worked as an intern at Lakelands Orthopedics in Greenwood, S.C., and observed Orthopedic Doctors, Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists as they provided specialized services to patients. Varnum also worked at the Coastal Carolina Soccer Camps at Middle Georgia College in Cochran, Ga. At the camps, Varnum prepared male and female athletes for practices and games and supervised the action to respond
