Swimming and Diving Teams Fall to UNCW

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston swimming and diving teams were defeated by UNC Wilmington on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Stern Center.

The men's team was narrowly defeated by a 159.5-138.5 tally while the women were bested 197-97.

Women's Highlights
Gracie Herlong placed first in the 200-meter butterfly (2:25.27).

April Coyne placed second in the 200-meter breaststroke with a 2:48.59 mark.

Sarah Boyle won the 100-meter butterfly (1:06.00).

Men's Highlights
The men's team started the meet off on the right foot by taking first place with the 200-meter medley relay team of Jackson Marine, Brantley Reynolds, Patrick Jones and Greg Karel (1:48.17).

Blake Buchanan took second in the 800-meter freestyle at 8:48.88.

The Cougars swept the 200-meter freestyle with first-place Matt Sherrier (1:55.32) followed by his brother, David Sherrier (1:57.05), and Eric Craig (2:00.03).

The Sherrier brothers also finished one-two in the 100-meter freestyle with Matt touching at :53.27 and David at :53.50.

Matt Sherrier also won the 400-meter freestyle (4:08.77) by nearly ten seconds.

Marine placed second in the 100-meter backstroke (1:01.53).

Reynolds was the victor in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:08.02).

Jones took second in the 200-meter butterfly (2:12.34), narrowly missing a first-place touch but won the 100-meter butterfly with a :58.03 time.

Karel championed the 50-meter freestyle (:24.53)

Next Up:
The Cougars return to action at home on Friday, Jan. 28 with a women-only meet against Campbell followed by both teams in action against Limestone on Saturday, Jan. 29.
