CHARLOTTE, N.C. - College of Charleston's Peter Gibbons (Fairfax, Va.) was named Diver of the Week while Davidson sophomore Drew Onken (Marietta, Ga.) has been selected as the CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week for meets competed Jan. 10-Jan. 16, it was announced today by the League.
Gibbons finished second in both diving events this past weekend against UNC Wilmington. In the 1-meter event Gibbons scored 217.57, and registered 202.35 in the 3-meter. The weekly accolade is Gibbons fourth of the season.
Onken earned his fourth swimmer of the week honor after a strong performance against Georgia Tech last Saturday. Onken won the 400 IM with second season-best time of 4:03.19. Onken also finished a second best time in the 200 breaststroke (2:06.37) and concluded the meet as the breaststroke leg in the 400-medley relay, clocking a 59.08 split.
Matt Sherrier (Boulder, Colo.) was also nominated for Swimmer of the Week after capturing three first-place finishes last weekend against UNC Wilmington.
The Cougars return to action at home on Friday, Jan. 28 with a women-only meet against Campbell followed by both teams in action against Limestone on Saturday, Jan. 29.
