CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston travels to Wingate in Charlotte, N.C., for the annual Fall Frenzy from Friday, Nov. 18 to Sunday, Nov. 20.
The Cougars are coming off an outstanding week where three different student-athletes were honored in the CCSA Weekly Awards, a program first for the Cougars.
Freshman Sarah Graif earned CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week honors after taking home two first-place finishes over Campbell in last weekend's meet, and was part of a 200-yard freestyle relay team that defeated NC State as well. Her time in the 50 free (24.46) currently ranks fifth in the conference and was directly behind the Wolfpack's top sprinter last weekend. She also swam 53.32 in the 100-yard freestyle to defeat Campbell and finish second behind the top N.C. State swimmer in the event.
Freshman Pablo Ortiz earned the CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week after he won the 200-yard IM with a time of 1:58.68 at NC State. He also finished second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:54.21 that is currently tops in the CCSA in that event. Ortiz took second in the 200-yard backstroke (1:56.46) with the CCSA's second-best time.
Junior Peter Gibbons won the CCSA Male Diver of the Week award after he finished third in the one-meter diving event with a score of 256.27 last week. That was his best mark this season and second-best score in the conference so far.
The Cougars return to Wingate as the reigning title-holders in the Fall Frenzy, winning the men's and women's sides last season. The meet is the last one in 2011 for the Cougars before they return to the pool on Jan. 7, 2012 at North Florida.
