Pablo Ortiz Named CCSA Men's Swimmer Of The Week

CHARLESTON, S.C. - College of Charleston freshman swimmer Pablo Ortiz won the CCSA Men's Swimmer of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday.

A native of Mauldin, S.C., Ortiz won the award for the second consecutive week, joining Davidson's Drew Onken as the only male recipients to earn the award twice this season. College of Charleston has now won four male weekly honors this year with divers Peter Gibbons and Michael Topitzer being selected previously.

This past weekend, Ortiz helped the Cougars' men's squad defend their Wingate Fall Frenzy title as they took first place with a total score of 797 points. Ortiz took second-place finishes in the 400 IM (4:06.09) and the 200 fly (1:52.58). He also placed fourth in the 200 IM (1:55.50) and ninth in the 100 fly (51.48). Ortiz recorded a split time of 51.58 in the 100 fly leg of the Cougars' ‘B' squad in the 400 medley relay that finished eighth, while also leading off the 800 free relay ‘B' team that finished third with a split time of 1:44.44. Ortiz was also on the ‘B' squad of the 200 medley relay that placed seventh, swimming 23.38 in the 50 fly leg.

College of Charleston swimming & diving will next compete on January 7 at North Florida.
