Cougar Swimming & Diving Squads Kick Off 2012 In North Florida Meet

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The College of Charleston men's and women's swimming & diving teams resume their schedule in 2012 with a meet on the campus of North Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.

The men's team will compete against UNC-Wilmington on Friday, January 6 beginning at noon. The squad last competed back in November when the Cougars won the Wingate Fall Frenzy behind strong performances from Matt Sherrier, Pablo Ortiz, Brantley Reynolds and Jackson Marine.

The CofC women's squad will face off against three CCSA opponents in host North Florida, Radford and Florida A&M beginning on Saturday, January 7 at noon.

The women finished second in the Wingate Fall Frenzy as freshman Sarah Graif set a new school record in the 100-yard freestyle with 51.75 seconds. Classmate Jayme Groth finished right behind her in the event, while Sarah Boyle boasted strong finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200 IM.

The Cougars have boasted a number of award winners this season as Ortiz has won CCSA Swimmer of the Week twice, and Peter Gibbons and Michael Topitzer have won CCSA Diver of the Week honors. Graif has won CCSA Swimmer of the Week honors on the women's side.
