For the second-straight term, the average GPA of all CofC student-athletes from 19 varsity sports was above a 3.000. Seven out of 11 of the Cougars women's teams posted average team GPAs of 3.000 or higher.
Not only did College of Charleston student-athletes continue to post better GPAs from top to bottom, but 11 individuals earned perfect 4.000 GPAs for the semester.
"I'm very proud of the academic commitment of our student-athletes during the fall semester," Director of Academic Services Keith Merritt II said. "They should be congratulated on a job well done. They work extremely hard in the classroom and in their sport."
Last semester, 42 student-athletes earned Faculty "Distinguished" Honors with a GPA of 3.60 or higher, while 34 student-athletes earned Faculty "Highly Distinguished" Honors with a GPA of 3.80 or higher.
On the women's swimming team, 25 of the 29 team members earned individual academic honors with GPAs of 3.0 or better, including two student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA. The women's squad finished second among all women's teams at College of Charleston last fall with a team GPA of 3.418.
On the men's side, 15 student-athletes achieved honors with a 3.0 or better, while the squad ranked third among all men's teams with an average GPA of 2.963, a vast improvement over the spring average.
