Last weekend at UNC-Wilmington, Gibbons picked up a first place finish with a season-best score of 264.90 in the 1-meter dive, outscoring the second-place finisher by 18.15 points. He also finished second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 237.60.
Ortiz took first place in the 400 IM with a time of 4:12.73, touching out the UNCW swimmer by just two-tenths of a second. He also finished second in the 200 fly (1:55.57) and fourth in the 200 back (1:59.93).
The award marks the second time this season that both Gibbons and Ortiz have been honored by the CCSA in the same week, after they did it on Nov. 16. Ortiz also won weekly honors on Nov. 23, making him just the second student-athlete this season to win the award on three separate occasions. Gibbons and VMI's Dallas Disbro are the only two divers to have won the award twice.
College of Charleston returns to the pool on Jan. 28 with a meet at Gardner-Webb.
