NEW ORLEANS - College of Charleston 2012 graduate Emily Smith (Rock Hill, S.C.) was named to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Track & Field team, announced by the USTFCCCA today.
Smith, who routinely earned placement on the Southern Conference All-Academic team during her four years at CofC surpassed the 3.25 grade point average to be placed on the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team.
"This is a tremendous honor to cap off a four-year career at the College of Charleston," CofC head coach Amy Seago said. "Emily is a great example of a student-athlete and has represented our program and this university with class and we are so proud of her."
On the track this year Smith won the Southern Conference Championship high jump event in both the indoor and outdoor seasons and advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary. She leaves as the school record holder in the event as well.
Smith earned a degree in Business Administration from CofC and plans to work forward a MBA in the future.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
