CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston Women's Track and Field team is back in action this week as they travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the Southern Conference Outdoor Championships.
The meet, hosted by Samford will begin on Friday with at 10:30 AM with the heptathlon. In the indoor conference championship, senior Isabel Boersma broke the school record in the pentathlon and finished second overall. Boersma currently holds the CofC record in the heptathlon as well.
One area the Cougars hope to pick up some key points is the distance events. Freshman Dena O'Brien comes in with the top mark in the conference in the 5,000-meter run and junior Kristen Wolfe has the second fastest time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
In the field events junior Emily Smith comes in with the second highest mark in the high jump and freshman Christine Klinar has the fifth best throw in the javelin.
CofC Coach Amy Seago said she is very excited to see how well her team can do.
"I think we are capable of scoring a lot of points and doing very well," she said. "We need to continue to do what we have been doing all season and we will be successful."
