The women's 6k race is set to start at 10:00a.m., with the men toeing the line at 11:15a.m. for their 10k competition. The top two teams and top four individuals will receive automatic bids to the NCAA Championships to be held in Terre Haute, Ind., on Nov. 22.
Last year the men's team finished 28th and the women did not make the trip, but this year head coach Amy Seago said with both of her team's in the mix it will be a good experience.
"Without a doubt we are going to see some great competition," she said. "It's exciting. It is good to see the level of competition and to help us improve."
"Our kids will gain valuable experience and be able to look down the line and realize they can qualify for the national championships," Seago added. "To be able to step up and improve with the competition is very important."
The Cougars are coming off a conference championship meet that saw them achieve great individual performances. Freshman Dena O'Brien placed fifth and was awarded Freshman of the Year honors. Fellow freshman Andrew Nelson made the All-Freshman team and Kristen Wolfe made the All-Conference Second Team. Overall the women's team finished seventh and the men's team eighth.
