Cougars Travel to Boone, Terre Haute for Weekend Competition
CHARLESTON, S.C. - After a week away from competition the College of Charleston men's and women's teams are back at it this weekend as most of the team will travel to Boone, N.C. for the Blue Ridge Open hosted by Appalachian State on Friday Oct. 14. Sophomore Dena O'Brien and freshman Hayley McMahon will compete Sunday Oct. 16 in the Pre-Nationals meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
The Blue Ridge Open will feature a women's 5K race at 3:00 p.m. and a men's 8K race at 3:45 p.m. Following those races there will be a women's and men's open race covering the same distance at 4:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
The field includes 26 teams, including conference foes Appalachian State and Furman, as well as ACC schools Wake Forest and Virginia Tech.
O'Brien and McMahon will compete in the women's 6K race at the Pre-Nationals meet, hosted by Indiana State on Sunday Oct. 16 at 11:40 p.m. They will run the course that the national championship meet will be contested on in November.
The Cougars last competed at the Charlotte Invitational on Sept. 30. Sophomore Dena O'Brien finished fourth in the race as she set a new school record in 17 minutes, 11 seconds. Sophomore Andrew Nelson led the men's team as he set a career best time of 25 minutes, 47 seconds. The women's team finished 12th out of 36 teams, while the men's team finished 10th out of 34 teams.
These meets will be the Cougars final competition before hosting the Southern Conference Championships on Oct. 29 at Trophy Lakes on Johns Island.
