CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston sailing team will carry momentum into two weekend regattas at North Points #3 hosted by Tennessee on March 10 in Knoxville, Tenn., and the Navy Spring Women's Invitational hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy on March 10-11 in Annapolis, Md.

The Cougars are fresh off two first-place finishes at the North Points #2 regatta and the Charleston Women's Intersectional held on March 3-4. It was evident of its impact, as the CofC women climbed three spots to No. 2 nationally with three first-place votes in the latest Sailing World Women's College Rankings, presented by Sperry Top-Sider on Thursday.

The Cougars will sail senior Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.), senior All-American Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.), sophomore Carly Shevitz (Santa Barbara, Calif.), sophomore Grace Lucas (Little Silver, N.J.) and junior Sarah Somes (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) this weekend at Navy.

"(Assistant) Coach Mitch (Hall) has been working hard with our women's team and they are looking forward to the competition this weekend at Navy," CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. "We are hoping to build on our success here at home and at USF. Hopefully, we can translate that success into some good sailing at Navy this weekend and St. Mary's College of Maryland next weekend."

Meanwhile, the third-ranked CofC coed squad will be represented at North Points competition by freshman skipper Iván Aponte-Taboas (Humacao, Puerto Rico), freshman crew Ali Blumenthal (Bellport, N.Y.), freshman skipper Chris Sands (Nassau, Bahamas) and freshman crew Tierney Driscoll (Bayport, N.Y.).
