CHARLESTON, S.C. - The No. 3-ranked College of Charleston co-ed sailing team will ring in the New Year at the 28th annual Rose Bowl regatta hosted by the University of Southern California and US Sailing Center on Jan. 5-6 at the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club in Long Beach, Calif.
The Cougars will be one of 30 collegiate sailing teams from across the country to participate in the two-day event. Two-person college Gold fleet crews will race CFJ dinghies near the Belmont Veterans Memorial Pier in the Long Beach outer harbor.
Freshman Jake Reynolds (San Diego, Calif.) will skipper A-Division with freshman crew Katie Dowling (Coronado, Calif.), while freshman Ryan Davidson (Newport Beach, Calif.) will skipper B-Division with freshmen crews Jack Jorgensen (La Canada, Calif.) and Kyle Sutter (San Diego, Calif.).
"It should be a lot of fun to watch our younger team members compete at this year's Rose Bowl," CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. "It is a really fun group of kids, so it will be nice to see them all again after the holiday break and do some sailing this weekend."
CofC will look to challenge top-ranked Georgetown and defending Rose Bowl champion Boston College for this year's title. Racing will begin each day at 11 a.m. (PT). The forecast calls for light winds.
This will be the final fall season regatta, before CofC commences its spring season at the SAISA Open hosted by Eckerd College on Feb. 9-10 in St. Petersburg, Fla.
