The Cougars edged South Florida (60) for first-place honors with 55 points in their spring season opener. They made nine first-place finishes in 20 overall races in the A-and B-Divisions combined. Clemson placed third with 81 points followed by Miami (93) and Rollins College (113) rounding out the top 5.
Sophomore skipper Chris Banholzer (Hartland, Wis.) and sophomore crew Alexis Scott (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the way in the A-Division with 19 points, while freshman skipper Elizabeth Chambers (Mooresville, N.C.) and freshman crew Courtney Alexander (Annapolis, Md.), placed fourth with 36 points in the B-Division.
CofC was one of 18 teams in the north and south intersectional regatta field including Florida Gulf Coast, USF, Georgia Tech, Rollins College, Florida, Florida Atlantic, Miami (Fla.), Jacksonville, Clemson, UNC Wilmington, NC State, Eckerd College, Tennessee, Florida Tech, Florida State, Auburn and Duke.
The Cougars will compete next at the USF Women's Intersectional hosted by South Florida on Feb. 19-20 in Tampa, Fla., and host the Charleston Spring Coed Intersectional on Feb. 19-20 at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center in Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
