Georgetown Edges Cougars For Bob Bavier Team Race Title

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. - The College of Charleston coed sailing team placed second at the home-hosted 2011 Bob Bavier Team Race held over the weekend on the Cooper River in Charleston Harbor.

The Cougars won 19-of-22 races, but fell short of defending their 2010 regatta title to Georgetown, who also posted a 19-3 record and wins over CofC and the U.S. Naval Academy in the final four round-robin competition which also included third-place St. Mary's College of Maryland (16-6).

The CofC race lineup included skippers Jackson Benvenutti (Bay Saint Louis, Miss.), Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.), Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Sam Stokes (Norfolk, Va.) as well as crew Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.), Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.), Perry Emsiek (Corona del Mar, Calif.) and Cory DeCollibus (Duxbury, Mass.).

CofC will next compete in three regattas on March 5-6 including the home-hosted Charleston Women's Intersectional at the J. Stewart Walker Sailing Center, the Eckerd Intersectional hosted by Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the Gram Hall Team Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md.
