The Cougars, who are currently ranked No. 3 in Sailing World's College Coed Rankings and No. 10 in Sailing World's College Women's Rankings, placed seventh at the Navy Spring regatta behind an eighth-place finish by junior skipper Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and crew Sarah Scudder (Mamaroneck, N.Y.), Sarah Somes (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) and Carly Shevitz (Santa Barbara, Calif.) with 162 points in the A-Division as well as a sixth-place finish by freshmen skippers Grace Lucas (Little Silver, N.J.) and Shevitz and crew Somes and Scudder with 134 points in the B-Division.
Meanwhile, CofC finished eighth at the St. Mary's Team Race posting a 4-5 record in the first round robin with wins over Navy, Old Dominion, Wisconsin and Yale and a 7-11 second round-robin record. The Cougars narrowly missed the cut for the Championship Final Four in which top-ranked Boston College prevailed with an 18-3 victory.
The Cougars were represented by skippers Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.), Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Jackson Benvenutti (Bay Saint Louis, Miss.) as well as crew members Cory DeCollibus (Duxbury, Mass.), Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.), Perry Emsiek (Corona del Mar, Calif.), Brooks Clark (Newport Beach, Calif.), Sam Stokes (Norfolk, Va.) and Jeff Aschieris (Newport Beach, Calif.).
CofC will continue spring competition on March 19-20 at the St. Mary's Women's regatta hosted by St. Mary's College of Maryland in Mt. St. Mary's College, Md., the Mendelblatt Team Race hosted by USF and Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Fla., and the Truxton Umsted hosted by Navy in Annapolis, Md.
