CHARLESTON, S.C. - The College of Charleston sailing team will travel to the New England area for two weekend regattas including the Southern New England Team Race hosted by Connecticut College on March 31-April 1 in New London, Conn., and the Dellenbaugh Women's Intersectional hosted by Brown on March 31-April 1 in Providence, R.I.
After celebrating a big victory at the Szambecki Team Race hosted by Old Dominion on March 24-25, the Cougars climbed to No. 2 in the latest Sail1Design College Sailing Team Race Rankings released on Thursday. They were previously ranked fourth and received an average of 1.8 points behind No. 1 Georgetown at 1.6 in the poll.
"The team race squad has come together nicely," CofC Head Coach Ward Cromwell said. "The team is having lots of fun and working well together. We are confident with our ability to work as a team to get wins. We are excited for the weekend and plan to keep working hard to continue improving on our communication and team work."
CofC will sail three boats at the team race event, one with senior All-American skipper Zeke Horowitz (Sarasota, Fla.) and junior crew Cory DeCollibus (Duxbury, Mass.), the second with junior All-American skipper Mac Mace (Newport Beach, Calif.) and senior All-American crew Perry Emsiek (Corona del Mar, Calif.), and the third with junior skipper Ben Spector (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and senior All-American crew Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.).
On the women's side, the seventh-ranked Cougars will be represented at the Dellenbaugh event by senior Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.), junior Sarah Scudder (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and sophomore Carly Shevitz (Santa Barbara, Calif.) in A-Division and sophomore Grace Lucas (Little Silver, N.J.) and junior Sarah Somes (Grosse Pointe Park, Mich.) in B-Division.
