Cougars Place Sixth at ICSA Women's National Championship

AUSTIN, Texas - The No. 13-ranked College of Charleston women's sailing team finished sixth on the final day of the Sperry Top-Sider/ICSA Women's National Championship co-hosted by the University of Texas Sailing Team and the Austin Yacht Club on Lake Travis.

The Cougars were one of 18 women's teams competing for the Gerald C. Miller Trophy which was won by eventual team champion Boston College. They won the head-to-head tiebreaker over the U.S. Naval Academy for sixth. The race committee was able to run seven races in both A-and B-Divisions completing the championship with 13 races total in A and B over the three days of the regatta.

Senior Corey Hall (St. Petersburg, Fla.) skippered A-Division to a ninth-place finish with 119 points along with senior All-American crew Alyssa Aitken (Sandwich, Mass.), while sophomore Grace Lucas (Little River, N.J.) skippered B-Division to fourth place with 91 points with junior Sarah Somes (Grosse Point Park, Mich.).

CofC made the finals after having to qualify out of the semifinals where the Cougars finished second with 97 points behind Connecticut College (87) on May 30-31 with the contributions of senior All-American crew Perry Emsiek (Corona del Mar, Calif.) in B-Division and sophomore Carly Shevitz (Santa Barbara, Calif.) in A-Division.

CofC will continue competition at ICSA Nationals with the ICSA/APS Team Race National Championship on June 3-5 and the ICSA/Gill Dinghy National Championship on June 6-8.
